Curation by Valentina Maggiolo:
"The artwork "Urban Reflections" by Swedish artist Maria Elias, created using the impasto technique, stands out for its materiality and expressive dynamism.
The thick layers of paint give the surface a three-dimensional quality, transforming the canvas into a field of visual and tactile tensions. The energetic brushstrokes and palette knife marks create a rhythm that seems to capture the ceaseless movement of the city. The color choices, with pigments mixed directly on the canvas, add spontaneity ad a certain raw expressiveness further enhanced by metallic gold reflections. These ominous details nor only accented the interplay of light and shadow but also evoke the shifting effect of a modern metropolis, where past and present overlap in a continuous flow of impressions.
The abstraction of the work does not eliminate the sense of urban reality but reinterprets it through a dense and gestural visual language. The result is a composition that transcends mere representation, becoming an emotional reflection on the city, its energy, and its everchanging nature. "

Artist note: "This piece is a meditation on city consciousness—where architecture meets introspection. As I layered form and texture, I imagined how a metropolis might see itself: not just through its mirrored windows and neon puddles, but in its rhythm, silence, chaos, and calm." Maria Elias
